Voters should feel safe with mail-ins

I read with fascination that Democrats want mail-in voting to defeat President Trump in the upcoming election.
Voting by mail started during the Civil War and members of the armed forces have been voting by mail ever since.
Every state, and the District of Columbia, run elections within their borders, and each state, along with the District of Columbia, have rules for voting by mail, though the specifics of this choice of how to cast a ballot do vary.
We find ourselves in extraordinary times. I am grateful that registered voters who feel imperiled by standing in line to vote on Nov. 3 during this pandemic can request mail-in ballots because the right to vote is sacred.
Republicans, Democrats and independents will decide elections within all 50 states this year, from towns to cities to state elections.
But it’s the national elections that get the most attention.
All elections matter and all registered voters should feel safe while exercising their franchise.
The choice of how to vote is a very good thing.
